There is something inspiring about seeing teenagers putting aside a part of their hard-earned money to help others. I see this everyday with children and youth around me, they are selfless, they will be the first ones to be on the scene to help someone out. It is inspiring, it gives me plenty of hope for the future.

I know, I know, giving back is not at the top of everyone’s list but for those who give, we can’t help but marvel when we see the next generation of leaders take it upon themselves to make this world a better place. I always point out that we do not have to wait until the next mission trip outside of the country to give back, we can do so much more right here at home. The need is great in our neighbourhoods, our cities, and our country.

We can make a change right here where we are. Jake continues to inspire me. Seeing the drive in him to do something about hydrating the people who are on the streets overwhelms me with so much joy. A teenager thinking about the wellbeing of others should be celebrated. A teenager spending money out of his own pockets should be highlighted. In a world where people are self centred and worried about their future, seeing a teenager stepping up to make a difference is a rare sight.

We can all take steps towards making a difference. We can teach our children to give back not only on Christmas but on days when the heat is blazing outside. We can, as adults be an example to our children of love and care, and I am not talking about love and care for those we know but for those we will never see again after showing up for them. Life is a beautiful blessing, sharing it with others brings great meaning to our existence.
